U.S. Currency and Canadian Coins Also See Spirited Bidding

1913 Type I PCGS Proof-68, $75,900

(Irvine, California) -- The beautiful and condition-rarity proof Buffalo Nickels in the Captiva Collection helped make the Bowers and Merena August 2005 Baltimore Auction a resounding success. The sale realized a total of $1.8 million.

“We also witnessed extremely active bidder competition on our U.S. currency and Canadian coinage offerings in Baltimore,” stated Jeff Ambio, Bowers and Merena’s Director of Numismatics.

“Highlights of our currency offerings include an 1861 Fr. 6 $10 Demand Note graded PCGS Fine-12 that netted $3,105. Among our extensive selection of Canadian coinage is a 1900 50 Cents that sold for $19,550, and a beautifully toned 1903-H 50 Cents that required $21,850 from the winning bidder. These two Half Dollars were certified by PCGS with grades of MS-64 and MS-66, respectively.”
