Finest Known 1913 Liberty Nickel To Be Displayed By Ed Lee and PCGS

(Newport Beach, California) – The finest of the five known 1913 Liberty Head nickels will be jointly displayed by owner Ed Lee and the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) at two more major coin shows during 2005.

The Eliasberg/Lee specimen certified PCGS Proof-66 will be exhibited along with related numismatic memorabilia at the Long Beach Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo, June 2 – 4, and at the American Numismatic Association’s World’s Fair of Money® in San Francisco, July 27 – 31, 2005.

Lee, President of Lee Certified Coins, Ltd. of Merrimack, New Hampshire, purchased the celebrated coin from California collector and sports agent, Dwight Manley, in July 2003.

“It’s been displayed only once, at the FUN convention this past January, since I purchased it. The rest of the time it’s been buried in an underground safe deposit box and insured for more than $4 million,” said Lee.

“I’ve always planned on sharing it with other collectors and public. The displays now planned for Long Beach and the San Francisco ANA conventions are part of a series of educational exhibits with PCGS during 2005 for the benefit of the entire numismatic community.”

PCGS will set up a special display of the Eliasberg/Lee 1913 Liberty Head nickel at its booths at the June Long Beach Expo and ANA summer convention. The exhibit will include an original plaster cast of the 1913 Liberty Head nickel; a 1953 edition of Life magazine featuring an article about a former, legendary owner of the coin, Baltimore banker Louis E. Eliasberg Sr.; a mid-1930’s copy of fabled Texas dealer B. Max Mehl’s Star Rare Coin Encyclopedia that helped popularize 1913 Liberty nickels; and a brief educational video about the famous coin.
