The Perth Mint is offering fans of Australian football the chance to celebrate the code’s 150th anniversary with a choice of Australian legal tender commemorative coins.
The Mint has released a magnificent 1oz pure silver coin and a bronze uncirculated $1 coin both portraying an exciting image of a high marking contest. The design also incorporates the AFL’s official Australian Football 150 Years logo, which is highlighted in colour on the silver coin.
Accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity, the silver coin comes in a gold-coloured presentation display case. A strictly limited mintage of just 12,500 will further enhance the coin’s collectability.
The bronze $1 coin comes in a sleeved presentation folder, which, like the silver coin’s numbered Certificate, describes the origins of Australian football in 1858 under Tom Wills and its rapid spread across the continent.
Gillon McLachlan, the AFL’s Chief Broadcasting & Commercial Officer, said that The Perth Mint coins were aimed at those involved in the game at all levels – from the grass roots in the country and suburbs through to supporters and staff at professional AFL Clubs.
“Beautifully crafted by The Perth Mint, these AFL-licensed coins present the opportunity to mark the game’s milestone year with mementos that collectors will be proud to own and hand down to subsequent generations of Australian football fans,” he said.
The 1oz silver coin, which retails for $95, and the bronze $1 coin, which retails for $13.50, are available from The Perth Mint on FREECALL 1800 098 817, through The Perth Mint Shop located at 310 Hay Street, East Perth, Australia Post outlets and leading coin distributors. Alternatively, collectors can purchase the coin via The Perth Mint’s online store at
