(Long Beach, California) – A one-of-a-kind collection of century-old United States silver dollars, each with eye-popping, natural rainbow colors, will be publicly displayed for the first time in California at the Long Beach Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo, February 5 – 7, 2009. The show will be held in the Long Beach Convention Center, 100 S. Pine Ave.

“The 97 silver dollars in the set date back to 1878, and each coin has spectacular, natural oxidation toning. In fact, the colors are so beautiful the set is named the ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow Collection.’ Some of the coins are the finest known of their kind,” said Ronald J. Gillio, the Expo General Chairman.

The set was assembled by collector Doug Kurz and will be displayed by Professional Coin Grading Service of Newport Beach which certified the authenticity of each coin.

“Old U.S. silver dollars are 90 percent silver, and under certain environmental conditions oxidation can create exquisite colors on their surfaces. The coins in this collection were not artificially enhanced. They have natural, multi-color toning, and are exceptionally beautiful,” said Gillio.

More than 1,000 dealers will be buying and selling rare coins, paper money, stamps, postcards, historic documents, antiques, estate jewelry and other collectibles at the three-day Long Beach Expo. Some dealers will provide free, informal appraisals for visitors. Young numismatists’ activities, including a children’s treasure hunt, will be held on Saturday, February 7.

A free gold coin door prize will be awarded each day to a lucky, registered visitor.

A half dozen educational seminars about collectibles and hobby club meetings will be conducted during the show, and Heritage Auction Galleries of Dallas, Texas, the world’s largest collectibles auction house, will hold a public sale of U.S. and world coins and paper money
