WASHINGTON – The United States Mint today announced that 2003-dated
Golden Dollars featuring Sacagawea will be available in bags of 2,000 coins
and rolls of 25 coins online at www.usmint.gov beginning at noon on February
3, 2003 (Eastern Standard Time).
These coins will be available to customers in 25-coin rolls for $35.50
and in 2,000-coin bags for $2,190.00. These coins bear either the
Philadelphia mint mark “P”or the Denver mint mark “D,” and there is no order
limit. The Golden Dollar rolls will be shipped by Priority Mail, and the
bags will be shipped by registered mail through the United States Postal
Service.
American sculptor Glenna Goodacre designed the obverse of the Golden
Dollar coin, which features the likeness of Sacagawea, the young Shoshone
woman who assisted Lewis and Clark on their exploration of the Louisiana
Purchase almost 200 years ago. The reverse design of the coin, by United
States Mint Sculptor/Engraver Thomas D. Rogers, Sr., features a soaring bald
eagle and 17 stars, one for each of the states at the time of the Lewis and
Clark Expedition.
Customers can purchase 2003-dated Golden Dollar Bags and Rolls one of
three ways: Order via the United States Mint’s secure website at
www.usmint.gov; call 1-800-USA-MINT; or download an order form at the web
site and mail it to United States Mint, Customer Care Center, 801 9th
Street, NW, Washington, DC 20220 (Attention: Order Processing). A shipping
and handling fee of $3.95 per order will be added to all orders for these
